John Ratterree, II has an AV-rated estate planning practice in Sandy  Springs.  In addition to wills, probate, trusts, family partnerships, charitable planning vehicles, living wills and health care powers of attorney (for health care or otherwise), he handles various tax, charitable planning and general business matters for a range of clients.  Before opening his own firm in 1988, he was associated with two Atlanta law firms. Before that, he was on the in-house staff of a long-distance telephone company, and has worked for an early pharmacy management firm. He holds a 1980 J.D. and a 1988 LL.M (Taxation) from Emory Law School. He took his B.A. with Distinction (History) from the University of Virginia in 1977. His preparatory education was at Woodberry Forest School in Virginia and The Cate School in California. He was born in South Carolina, in 1956, lived in Nevada from 1965-1970, and in New York City from 1980-1982.

Mr. Ratterree is a member of the State Bar of Georgia (Fiduciary Law Section), the State Bar of California (Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law Section), the Atlanta Bar Association (Taxation Section & Small Firm/Sole Practitioner Section), the Sandy Springs Bar Association, the North Atlanta Tax Council, the Georgia Legal History Foundation and the Planned Giving Council of Georgia and the Estate Planning Council of North Georgia. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the 9th and 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern Districts of Georgia and California and all relevant Georgia and California state courts.

Mr. Ratterree is an active leader in the Georgia High School Mock Trial Competition (Vice Chair, Subcommittee on the Problem and past Fulton County Regional Coordinator), school alumni activities and area community organizations.
